Sign shapes

Signs come in many different shapes. The most common shapes are square, circular, and triangular. Each different shape of a sign sends a different message, and the content of each shape ensures that the meaning of the sign is the same regardless of whoever is reading it.

Square signs are usually used to portray general information to an audience, for example: safe condition signs, public information signs, and fire equipment signs. These signs are most commonly used to provide information to the reader about where and what something is, and similar information.

Circular signs usually give instructions that must be followed, for example: mandatory and prohibition signs. These signs provide instructions that cannot be ignored.

Triangular signs are usually used as warning signs, to convey danger. Their purpose is to quickly the reader to be aware and careful.

The meaning of signs

1. Warning Signs

Warning signs are used to indicate the presence of hazards or hazardous materials. They are easily recognizable yellow triangular signs with a solid black border with a black pictogram on it. Examples of triangular signs include: beware danger, high voltage and beware hot surface.

1. เครื่องหมายเตือน

เครื่องหมายเตือนใช้บ่งบอกให้ระวังอันตรายหรือบ่งชี้ว่ามีอันตราย โดยปกติแล้วมีรูปแบบเป็นสามเหลี่ยม พื้นสีเหลือง สีของแถบตามขอบมีสีดำ และสีของสัญลักษณ์ภาพมีสีดำ ตัวอย่างเครื่องหมายเตือน ได้แก่ ระวังอันตราย, ระวังไฟฟ้าแรงสูง และระวังพื้นผิววัสดุร้อน เป็นต้น

2. Prohibition Signs

Prohibition signs indicate actions that must not be done. This type of sign is easily recognizable with its bold red circle and diagonal bar running from the top left to the bottom right. The pictogram is displayed in black with this circle overlaying it. Examples of this sign type include: no slipper, no smoking and no taking picture.

2. เครื่องหมายห้าม

เครื่องหมายห้าม หมายถึง เครื่องหมายที่แสดงเกี่ยวกับคำสั่งห้าม ตามที่แสดงไว้ในเครื่องหมายความปลอดภัยแบบสัญลักษณ์หรือข้อความ เพื่อไม่ให้เกิดอันตรายในการปฏิบัติงาน เครื่องหมายห้ามมีสีพื้นเป็นสีขาว มีสีแถบตามขอบวงกลมและแถบขวางเป็นสีแดง และสีของสัญลักษณ์ภาพเป็นสีดำ ตัวอย่างเครื่องหมายห้ามสวมรองเท้าแตะ, ห้ามสูบบุหรี่ และห้ามถ่ายรูป เป็นต้น

3. Mandatory Signs

Mandatory signs indicate that a specific action must be taken. These signs usually have white pictograms on a blue circle. Examples of this type of sign include: wear shoes, wear masks, and wear helmet.

3. เครื่องหมายบังคับ

เครื่องหมายบังคับ หมายถึง เครื่องหมายที่แสดงเกี่ยวกับข้อบังคับให้ปฏิบัติและอธิบายถึงการป้องกันอันตราย ลักษณะของเครื่องหมายบังคับ สีพื้นเป็นสีฟ้า สีของสัญลักษณ์ภาพเป็นสีขาว ตัวอย่างเครื่องหมายบังคับ ได้แก่ สวมรองเท้านิรภัย, สวมหน้ากาก และสวมหมวกนิรภัย เป็นต้น

4. Fire Equipment Signs

Fire equipment signs are used to indicate the location of firefighting equipment. This type of sign usually has a white pictogram on a red square. Examples of this class of sign include: fire hose reel, fire extinguisher, and fire alarm.

4. เครื่องหมายเกี่ยวกับการป้องกันและระงับอัคคีภัย

เครื่องหมายเกี่ยวกับการป้องกันและระงับอัคคีภัย หมายถึง เครื่องหมายที่แสดงการบ่งชี้ถึงตำแหน่งของอุปกรณ์ป้องกันและระงับอัคคีภัย สัญญาณแจ้งเหตุเพลิงไหม้ และข้อแนะนำในการใช้อุปกรณ์หรือสารเคมีแต่ละชนิดที่ใช้ในการระงับอัคคีภัย เครื่องหมายนี้มีลักษณะเป็นสี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้าหรือสี่เหลี่ยมจัตุรัส สีพื้นเป็นสีแดง และสีของสัญลักษณ์ภาพเป็นสีขาว ตัวอย่างเครื่องนี้ ได้แก่ สายฉีดน้ำดับเพลิง, ถังดับเพลิง และสัญญาณแจ้งเหตุเพลิงไหม้ เป็นต้น

5. Safe Condition Signs

Safe condition signs are usually a white pictogram on a green square. They are used to indicate the location of emergency facilities and areas. Signs from this category include: first aid, emergency exit, and life jacket signs.

5. เครื่องหมายสารนิเทศเกี่ยวกับความปลอดภัย

เครื่องหมายสารนิเทศเกี่ยวกับความปลอดภัย หมายถึง เครื่องหมายที่แสดงการบ่งชี้ถึงตำแหน่งหรือสถานที่ต่างๆ ที่ต้องรู้เมื่อปฏิบัติงาน เครื่องหมายนี้มีลักษณะเป็นสี่เหลี่ยมจัตุรัสหรือสี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้า สีพื้นมีสีเขียว สีของสัญลักษณ์เป็นสีขาว และแสดงสัญลักษณ์ภาพไว้ตรงงกลางของเครื่องหมายความปลอดภัย ตัวอย่างเครื่องหมายความปลอดภัย ได้แก่ ป้ายปฐมพยาบาล, ป้ายทางออกฉุกเฉิน และป้ายสวมเสื้อชูชีพ เป็นต้น

6. Public Information Signs

Public information signs usually have a black pictogram on a white square with a black border. They are used to convey general information to the public in an easy to understand form. Examples of this type of sign include: male and female toilet, parking and restaurant.

6. เครื่องหมายการให้ข้อมูลต่างๆ

เครื่องหมายการให้ข้อมูลต่างๆ หมายถึงเครื่องหมายที่ให้ข้อมูลทั่วไปในที่สาธารณะ ซึ่งง่ายต่อการเข้าใจ โดยใช้รูปภาพในการสื่อความหมาย ลักษณะของเครื่องหมายเป็นรูปภาพสีดำ สีพื้นเป็นสีขาว ตัวอย่างเครื่องหมาย ป้ายทางไปห้องน้ำ, ที่จอดรถ และร้านอาหาร เป็นต้น
